The Northeast Consortium for Staff DevelopmentMASTER OF EDUCATION IN SPECIAL EDUCATION DEGREE
This Master of Education in Special Education Degree program through Salem State College is offered as a Brockton site program. It is a compact arrangement of 36 graduate credits (11 courses plus a Practicum) with a prescribed curriculum. It is designed to be completed in six semesters, but may be extended.
For students who seek Initial License in Moderate Special Needs as part of this Degree program, the two pre-requisites are a Bachelor's Degree and passing scores on the Communication and Literacy portion of the MTEL. Applicants are not required to hold any Massachusetts Teacher Licenses. (These will be applied for as part of the program as further testing is achieved.) Initial Licensure for this program is endorsed by Salem State College.
For students not seeking license as part of the degree, up to three courses (9 credits) may be transferred into the program with the approval of the Dean of the Graduate School. Such courses must meet the SPED requirements of the course offerings they replace.
Currently, this program is priced at $250.00 per credit. The entire program costs $9,000.00. If three courses (9 credits) are transferred into the program, the total cost is $6,750.00. Program costs are scheduled to rise in September 2008.
This M Ed in SPED Degree is ideal for individuals who seek entry into a Special Education classroom or for those who possess Professional Licensure and who seek to complete their professional resume in Special Education at the Master's level.
